NWEA Names Jacob Bruno to Vice President of Professional Learning, Patrick Meyer to Director of Psychometric Solutions


PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- NWEA, the not-for-profit provider of assessment solutions, has named Jacob Bruno as Vice President of Professional Learning and Patrick Meyer as Director of Psychometric Solutions.

Jacob Bruno oversees the organization's design and delivery of professional learning services and solutions to a diverse set of educators—as well as the development of strategic partnerships to enhance and expand the best-in-class experiences NWEA offers teachers. Bruno has nearly two decades of experience in professional development, training, and coaching across multiple areas of emphasis, including formative assessment, assessment literacy, mathematics, and English Language Learners. Previously, he was director of partner relations at the Council of Chief State School Officers in Washington D.C.

Bruno ran Rick Stiggins' Assessment Training Institute and the S.I.O.P. program at Pearson and developed many education initiatives at Corwin Press. He has led large coaching initiatives in school districts around the nation. Bruno holds a B.S. in mathematics and experimental psychology from Oklahoma State University and an M.Ed. with an emphasis in secodary education and culturally responsive teaching from the University of Oregon.



Patrick Meyer is responsible for ensuring that MAP Suite assessments support teaching and learning, help improve student outcomes, and deliver the most precise and accurate data needed by teachers, schools, districts, and states. Previously, Meyer taught educational measurement and applied statistics as an associate professor with tenure in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. His research interests involve item response theory, vertical scaling, parameter invariance, and evaluating the psychometric characteristics of teaching measures. He has conducted over 25 standard setting workshops in the licensure and certification field.

Meyer is the inventor and lead developer of jMetrik, an open-source software program for psychometric analysis. He has authored two books and published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Meyer holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Georgia, an M.S. in psychology from Augusta State University, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology and research from the University of South Carolina.
