Eleanor Crane, PhD named CTO of Enview

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Enview, a Silicon Valley-based company using the latest in AI and machine learning to protect critical energy infrastructure and prevent incidents such as wildfires, leaks, and spills, announced that Dr. Eleanor Crane has been named the company's first Chief Technical Officer.

Dr. Eleanor Crane named Enview CTO.

Crane brings to the team a unique balance of R&D prototyping with mission-critical engineering giving Enview the rare ability to create cutting-edge solutions for utilities that identify potential threats before they become incidents.

"Eleanor's leadership will ensure that Enview continues to be a world leader in the practical use of genuine AI/computer vision solutions. Eleanor's strong track record and ability to combine novel algorithm development with robust software engineering means that our product will continue to be architected with unprecedented speed, scalability, and accuracy," said Enview Founder & CEO San Gunawardana, PhD. "I am honored to have her take on the role of CTO and to have the privilege to continue working with her. She's the kind of amazing talent that people aspire to work with."

Crane, an MIT undergraduate, earned her PhD at Stanford on airborne threat detection using computer vision to enable the autonomous landing of planetary probes. She later launched hercareer in safety-critical software engineering at NASA where she wrote flight software for on-board navigation for a NASA spacecraft that orbited the Moon (LADEE).

Crane has led the architecture and development of one of the world's most powerful and scalable engines for 3D computer vision on unstructured point clouds during her time at Enview. Crane joined the Enview team as the first hire and under her technical leadership the amount of LiDAR data analyzed by the company's platform has increased by an order of magnitude every year.

"We're using the latest advancements in technology and building solutions that provide real value in a world where we're facing incredibly real and challenging problems from record-breaking wildfires and rolling power outages, to hurricanes and pipeline explosions," said Crane. "At Enview, we're in a position to do something about it. It isn't technology for the sake of technology. It's about identifying problems in the real world and using a combination of algorithms and human expertise to solve them. I'm proud to be part of this team and to see our code have real outcomes and impact in the physical world."

As CTO, Crane will provide strategic technical leadership for Enview's talented team of geospatial, cloud infrastructure, web, machine learning and computer vision engineers. Enview is currently hiring engineers with expertise in machine learning and 3D vision. For more information about working at Enview, visit enview.com/careers.
