Shaquille O'Neal and Tara Westover to Keynote Ellucian Live 2019

Ellucian, a provider of software and services built to power higher education, is excited to announce its keynote speakers for Ellucian Live 2019-Shaquille O'Neal and Tara Westover. Ellucian Live, Ellucian's annual users' conference, will be held in New Orleans from April 7-10, 2019 and expects more than 7,500 participants from at least 1,700 higher education institutions worldwide.

"This year's keynote speakers have broken down barriers to achieve what most only dream about," said Ellucian President and CEO, Laura Ipsen (News - Alert). "Tara's persistence in the pursuit of education and Shaq's passion for knowledge led them down very different paths of educational achievement, yet both have realized first-hand the importance of lifelong learning in achieving personal success."

While Shaquille O'Neal is best known for a successful NBA career spanning nearly two decades, culminating in his inclusion in the NBA Hall of Fame, he also shares a passion for higher education. After leaving school early to enter the NBA Draft, O'Neal went back to Louisiana State University eight years into his basketball career and earned his bachelor's degree. In 2005, he earned a master's of business administration through the University of Phoeni's online degree program. After winning an NBA title in 2006, O'Neal went back to school once again, earning his doctoral degree in organizational learning and leadership with a specialization in human resource development. Additionally, he has studied directing and cinematography with the New York Film Academy's Filmmaking Conservatory and has fostered a philanthropic relationship with the Boys & Girls Club of America, participating in campaigns with the non-profit company for the past 15 years.

Tara Westover, author of the best-selling memoir, Educated, was born in Idaho to a family opposed to public education and did not attend a physical school until age 17. Westover's home schooling was more informal; she spent her days working in her father's junkyard or stewing herbs for her mother, a self-taught herbalist and midwife. After her first encounter with formal education, she pursued learning for a decade. Westover graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in 2008 and earned a Master's in philosophy from Trinity College, Cambridge in 2009 while on a Gates Scholarship. She was a visiting fellow at Harvard University in 2010 and earned her doctoral degree in history from Cambridge in 2014.
