Social Impact Awards Honor Chicago Mental Health Advocates

CHICAGO, Feb. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Registration is now open for The Chicago School of Professional Psychology's (TCSPP) Social Impact Awards Luncheon taking place on March 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Maggiano's Banquets. Launched to honor the outstanding work happening in the Chicago community by mental health professionals and advocates, the luncheon is in its second year and is one of many events The Chicago School has planned to celebrate its 40^th anniversary. The Chicago School is a leading nonprofit, private university devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral health sciences.

SHE radio host and mental health advocate Jay Styles will emcee the event honoring:

• Dan Bigg, co-founder and director of Chicago Recovery Alliance (CRA), whose mission is to directly serve, support, educate and advocate with others for reducing drug related harm. Named "Chicago Magazine's" 2017 Chicagoan of the Year, Mr. Bigg was co-developer of Mobile Opiate Substitution Therapy, a program designed to destigmatize methadone services and mae them more accessible. Mr. Bigg passed away in 2018.
• Armand R. Cerbone, Ph.D., ABPP, LGBTQ mental health advocate. In the late 1970s, Dr. Cerbone he was among the first openly gay psychotherapists to advocate and offer appropriate and affirmative care for LGBT clients. He is the founder of the Sexual Orientation Section of the Illinois Psychological Association.
• Captain Jeffrey Coady, Psy.D., ABPP, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) Regional Director. Captain Coady represents the Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use in fulfilling the agency's mission to reduce the impact of mental illness and substance use disorders in communities in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and 34 Federally-recognized Tribes. Captain Coady is a TCSPP alum.

All proceeds from the Social Impact Leaders Awards luncheon will go to scholarships for continuing students on The Chicago School's Chicago Campus, and the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education.
