RTI Announces Leadership Roles in the New DDS Foundation Launched by the Object Management Group

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity company, today announced its involvement in the DDS Foundation, newly-launched by the Object Management Group® (OMG®). RTI’s Senior Director of Aerospace and Defense (A&D), Chip Downing, has been elected Vice President of Ecosystem where he will be responsible for growing the sphere of influence for the Data Distribution Service™ (DDS™) standard through outreach with organizations that have companion specifications. RTI’s Director of Content Marketing, Lynne Canavan, was also elected as the Foundation’s Vice President of Marketing where she will lead its efforts to expand understanding of the technology and leverage new opportunities.

“The DDS Foundation was formed to create a community for DDS users, increase awareness of the standard, and leverage opportunities across the DDS ecosystem,” said Bill Hoffman, President and COO of the OMG. “I am excited about RTI’s significant roles in this initiative and on the Foundation’s executive team. The DDS Foundation is charged with ensuring the growth, awareness and adoption of DDS across industries. Key initiatives include conformance/interoperability testing, building IIoT use cases and educational outreach. The DDS Foundation will hold its first public meeting on March 20 during the OMG Technical Committee meeting in Reston, VA. The Foundation’s newly elected leaders will moderate its inaugural event, DDS in the Real World, which will feature DDS customers and real-world case studies. There will be a particular focus on the role of DDS in IIoT, robotics and defense.

“The DDS standard has historically been a well-kept-secret in the industry, especially considering the vast array of benefits it provides mission-critical systems and markets. As the VP of Ecosystem, it is my goal to change that,” said Chip Downing, Senior Director of Aerospace & Defense at RTI. “The smart system industry is undergoing a transformation with a focus on higher levels of autonomy, real-time performance, scalability and advanced security. The opportunities for DDS in this market are endless and I look forward to working with the rest of the leadership team to establish DDS as the dominant connectivity standard.”

The OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium with representation from government, industry and academia. The group launched the DDS Foundation as a vendor neutral body, with the goal of bringing together a community of technology companies, end users, developers and IIoT industry influencers to advance the mission of DDS. DDS is a proven connectivity standard for the IoT, optimized for highly scalable application environments that require real-time data communication exchange.

RTI currently has the world’s leading implementation of the DDS standard. The standard is well proven in mission-critical systems across industries, and provides a number of key benefits for users, including: ease of integration, performance efficiency and scalability, advanced security, interoperability, scalable discovery and applicability across systems.
