Dr. Andrew Ang of BlackRock Joins Gregg Fisher of Gerstein Fisher on 'The Q Factor' Podcast for the 'Great Factor Summit'

Gregg Fisher, factor-investing-pioneer, portfolio manager and head of research at Gerstein Fisher, explores 'Factor Investing' with Dr. Andrew Ang, PhD, Managing Director and Head of Factor Based Strategies at BlackRock, on the newest episode of 'The Q Factor.' The podcast series features conversations with leading quantitative thinkers from all fields.

Before joining BlackRock in 2015, Dr. Ang was Chair of the Finance and Economics Division and the Ann F. Kaplan Professor of Business at Columbia Business School. Over the course of his career, he has focused on identifying and harvesting factors and their returns across asset classes.

"The 'recipe' for factor investing consists of three main ingredients: the underlying data, modern technology to provide access to the data, and a human element, or "chef" who oversees the process and applies common sense to the structural and investment processes," says Dr. Ang. "While once only exclusive institutional organizations had access to the research that leads to broad and consistent sources of return, factor investing and modern technology are democratizing investing, and have a large role to play in combating one of the leading problems of our time: the retirement funding crisis that much of the world is facing."

On this edition of 'The Q Factor,' two factor pioneers discuss the rapid growth of factor investing and how these tools can be best utilized to improve investor outcomes. The two cover the definition of factor investing, simple ways of thinking about the concepts behind it and what it means for the investment management industry and retirement planning in particular. They also touch on the struggles that the value factor has had over the last decade and wha we can expect going forward for what some have deemed the "original factor."

"'While 'The Q Factor' has a scope way beyond the investment industry, it was important to me to give our listeners a strong understanding of how the data revolution has powered what I do: factor investing," says Mr. Fisher. "And there's no one better on both the basics and the advanced elements of factor investing than Andrew Ang. I hope you'll enjoy our conversation."

Guests on 'The Q Factor' have included innovators, political-campaign strategists, educators, and business leaders, but the format is not limited to any discipline. As a pioneer in data-driven investment strategies, Gregg is interested in exploring any field or discipline which data is changing and shaping the conversation.

Upcoming guests include: Jesse Redniss, Chief Data Officer, Turner; Priyanka Mittal, pioneer in the rice industry; and Jeff Brock, Professor of Mathematics and Dean of Science at Yale. Past guests have included Nobel (News - Alert) Laureate Dr. Robert C. Merton (A Data Visionary Senses A Coming Crisis); Satish Tripathi, Data Scientist and President, University of Buffalo (Optimizing Higher Education); Ethan Roeder, former Data Director for Barack Obama's presidential campaigns (Data Meets the Midterms); and Anne Milgram, former Attorney General of New Jersey (Finding Justice Through Data).
