World System Integrator Conference in Taiwan Brings Together Innovators and Technology for the Future Smart Cities

TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 300 participants from 20 countries gathered on March 25th in the Nangang Exhibition Center to kick off Taiwan's first annual "World System Integrator Conference," held by the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) and supervised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. System Integration Promotion Alliance (SIPA) Project Office acted as one of the main implementors of the conference. This day-long event kicked off with the signing of a cooperative agreement between Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The director of the international division Institute for Information Industry (III) Ms. Vivian Huang signed two cooperative agreements with Southeast Asian partners -- the first with the Chairman of the Thai IoT Association Kampon Choksutthasut, and the second with the Vice-director of the Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (RIPT) Dr. Ha Hai Nam of Vietnam. Both MOs will support future work on industrial exchange.

On the need for SI, IDB's Secretary General Ms. Pei-Li Chen said: "Due to the growing trend of a new digital economy, future prosperity will depend on integrated systems of hardware plus software plus services and applications that combine into value-added outputs."

After the MOU signing, Dr. Stan Schneider Vice Chair of the Steering Committee for the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) described the state of SI for industrial IoT applications from an international perspective. "If systems depend on data, think first about the data," Dr. Schneider said to highlight the importance of analysis and design in SI systems.

Participants heard from innovative Taiwanese companies such as MiTAC and Advantech who shared cutting edge smart systems ranging from smart surveillance to transport solutions. Other companies such as Glory and Tatung shared during a panel in the afternoon about their successful export projects abroad.

Taiwan already has ample experience with SI cases and wants to share these advances with the world. Smart buses, bike sharing, automated electronic tolls, IoT, and even artificial intelligence rounded out the case studies from Taiwan.

Managed by the Institute for Information Industry (III), SIPA is a platform that is used to support these cases. The director of III said: "The System Integration Promotion Alliance (SIPA) Project Office will serve as a platform for cooperation on system integration between Taiwan and the rest of the world."

In the afternoon, international guests from Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Thailand, and more shared about best practices and potential challenges to future SI collaboration in their regions.

Over the next few days, the 100 visiting international VIPs will visit key field sites for system integration in Taiwan. The World System Integrator Conference is not just the start of a discussion, but is also the beginning of stronger cooperation with top SI companies from Taiwan with their counterparts around the globe.
