Insight School of Washington Expands Programs to Set High School Students on Career Path

Beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year, Insight School of Washington (ISWA), a full-time online public school program of the Quillayute Valley School District, will offer the Destinations Career Academy (DCA at ISWA) for full-time high school students. DCA at ISWA students will have the opportunity to get a jump start on their college and career goals, as they are immersed in a learning plan that allows them to seek out new experiences while earning a high school diploma.

DCA at ISWA combines traditional academics with industry-relevant, career-focused pathways of study. Students will choose from a variety of courses to gain exposure to the in-demand career fields of Business and Information Technology.

"We are thrilled to grow ISWA to include this innovative career preparedness program," said head of school Cecily Kiester. "We have always been committed to giving our students new ways to reach their full potential. With the Destinations Career Academy, they will have even more opportunities to find a path to success."

According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, more than 1.1 million jobs are expected to open in Washington between 2010 and 2020. Of those, 70% will require an education level of an Associate degree or less, with a quarter of a million job openings only requiring a high school diploma. The need for jobs such as qualified software engineers and security analysts will continue to grow, with an expected growth rate of 22% in the state's information sector by 2020. DCA at ISWA will offer students an opportunity to build specialized skills to prepare to enter these in-demand fields.

ISWA's live online classes are led by licensed teachers, who can tailor instruction to meet each student's needs. In addition to the Destinations Career Academy courses, students study the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, and history, as well as world languages and a host of electives. Students also have the opportunity to participate in virtual clubs and in-person activities with classmates and school staff throughout the year.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, special needs, the safety of a bullying-free environment and a schedule that supports academics while balancing extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. ISWA's online setting enables students to access this unique learning opportunity anywhere with an internet connection in the state of Washington.

Enrollment in Destinations Career Academy at ISWA is open for the 2019-2020 school year. For more information, visit https://wa.insightschools.net/destinations.
