Rally Health's Real Appeal Diabetes Prevention Program Earns CDC Full Recognition

Digital health company Rally Health, Inc., part of health services leader Optum, announced today that its digital Real Appeal Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) has received full recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), signifying that its science-based program meets CDC standards and delivers an effective, proven diabetes prevention lifestyle change program.

The Real Appeal DPP was built upon the foundation of Rally's Real Appeal® personalized online weight-loss program that was introduced four years ago and has since helped 700,000+ people lose collectively more than 2.5 million pounds. Both programs offer intensive lifestyle intervention to help individuals learn how to make small, simple lifestyle changes - over time - for living a healthier life. The Real Appeal DPP offers expanded programming specifically to help participants prevent or reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

"With this CDC full recognition validating the effectiveness of our Real Appeal DPP, we're eager to accelerate our work with employers and health plans to spread the message that most cases of type 2 diabetes - 9 out of 10 - are preventable by making lifestyle changes and Real Appeal can help them make those changes," said Brenda Yang, COO, Rally Health.

The CDC awards full recognition to diabetes prevention programs that meet its strict standards, which include the use of a CDC-approved curriculum; the use of trained lifestyle coaches who help participants develop the skills necessary to make lasting lifestyle changes; and a commitment to provide a year-long program that includes at least 16 coaching sessions during the first six months and six in the last six months. The CDC's recognition program requires that a certain percentage of participants be diagnosed with prediabetes through blood testing.

Rally's Real Appeal DPP met and in some cases exceeded the required standards. Its 52-week program, which is offered at no additional cost to eligible members as part of participating employee benefits plans, offers 32 60-minute group sessions online led by a personal coach. There are 26 weekly sessions in the first six months, and six monthly sessions in the last six months. In each session, participants work with their coach to cover the CDC's Prevent T2 content and view videos developed by Real Appeal and approved by the CDC that highlight healthy lifestyle habits. Additionally, digital tools are available 24/7.
