The General® Insurance Accepts New Social Media Challenge from Shaquille O'Neal to Encourage Voter Registration

The General® Insurance has accepted longtime brand ambassador and friend Shaquille O'Neal's social media challenge to encourage voter registration for the upcoming 2020 General Election in November.

The #MyStartingFive challenge was launched by Shaq and Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum, alongside the national, nonpartisan non-profit organization, When W All Vote, whose mission is to increase voter participation in elections. The movement is intended to educate eligible voters on the power of their voice and their vote, and take action. Participants in the challenge will nominate five people to register and pledge to vote in November's election via the When We All Vote #MyStartingFive voter registration portal: whenweallvote.org/mystartingfive

"I'm excited to partner with When We All Vote and launch the #MyStartingFive challenge," said Shaquille O'Neal. "I want everyone to know your voice and your vote matter, regardless of who you are, where you live or your political ideology. The General is a great partner of mine, so it was natural to include them in my corporate Starting Five. I'm happy that they've accepted the challenge and will keep it going by challenging other partners."

The General is enthusiastic about the opportunity to get involved. "We're grateful that Shaq invited us to join in on this important challenge," said Elicia Azali, The General chief revenue officer. "Not only do we gladly accept the challenge and encourage everyone to vote, we also have some great partners on board with us to do the same."

Included in The General's Starting Five are BET (News - Alert), Tennessee State University, The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and Premiere Network's nationally syndicated radio shows: The Bobby Bones Show and The Breakfast Club. "We selected current partners we knew had the passion and reach for this type of initiative, and we're thrilled they've accepted our challenge," said Azali.

The #MyStartingFive challenge kicked off Friday, July 31st and will run through Election Day Tuesday, November 3rd.
