AM Best to Sponsor and Participate at Vermont Captive Insurance Association's Virtual Conference

AM Best will participate in the 2020 Vermont Captive Insurance Association's (VCIA) Annual Conference in multiple capacities, including as a platinum sponsor of the event. Members of AM Best's analytic team also will take part in a presentation focused on the rating agency's approach to captive insurers. This year's event is virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and takes place Aug. 11-13, 2020.

Daniel J. Ryan, senior director, and Susan Molineux, director, both of AM Best, will participate in a panel discussion, titled, "How a Captive's Rating is Determined," on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 11:15 a.m. (EDT). The session will provide insight on AM Best's ratings process for captives, including the assessment of balance sheet strength, operating performance, business profile and enterprise risk management (ERM). The analysts will discuss AM Best's interactive rating process, along with the various factors that are weighed when arriving at a final rating. This session will use a fictitious captive to illustrate the analysis that typically takes place when AM Best assesses captives and prepares to go before a rating committee.

Ryan is responsible for the credit analysis and the assignment of Best's Credit Ratings on nearly 200 insurance organizations, and directs the rating activities on domestic and foreign captive insurers. Molineux manages a team of property/casualty analysts who evaluate the ratings of captive and title companies. She also has followed global reinsurance organizations, and prior to joining AM Best, spent nearly a decade as an insurance regulator at the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

This year marks the 20th year that AM Best hassponsored the VCIA conference, which offers a multitude of seminars focused on captive insurance trends and networking opportunities. AM Best will exhibit via a virtual booth during the conference, and registered conference attendees can visit the booth to learn about the rating agency, its role in the insurance industry and the resources it offers to insurance professionals, including Best's Credit Ratings, insurance data and analytic resources and financial data products.

Brendan Tyne, senior account manager on AM Best's business development team, along with Daniel Giunta and Arthur Snyder IV, account managers, will be available during the VCIA conference to discuss the commercial aspects of and the process for initiating a Best's Credit Rating. To arrange a meeting, email [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected].
