Dynamic Call Rating Helps Mobile Operators Boost Call Traffic

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

Dynamic Call Rating enables mobile operators to improve network resource utilization and subscriber affinity, and increase voice revenue. Thus, mobile network operators can monitor and analyze mobile phone traffic levels for a specific location, and offer customers incentives to use their phones during off-peak periods to maximize network capacity utilization. Roamware, Inc., a leading provider of roaming and Mobile Financial solutions, has announced the availability of Dynamic Call Rating.

In order to utilize this facility, mobile operators are required to set up RANs, or radio access networks, to provide mobile coverage for customers. Although these are designed to cater to peak loads, sometimes they are highly underutilized. This happens because people change their location throughout the day, so at any specific time, certain areas have a low subscriber density, whilst others have a higher density. For instance, during working hours, residential areas could experience a low subscriber density, and business districts could have a higher density.

In order to encourage customers to use their mobile phones during low-traffic periods, Dynamic Call Rating offers discounts. This helps to raise RAN capacity utilization, and also acts as an incentive for customer to use their mobile phones during this period. An optional service of informing customers about the level of discount available and the time period for which it is valid can be availed of. Depending on the network load analysis, the service offers a variable discount to subscribers using various communication channels.

"Mobile subscribers expect quality mobile reception at all times, regardless of the location and mobile operators are continuously challenged by the need to invest in providing good coverage while also receiving a good return on investment," said Abraham Punnoose, vice president of marketing and business development at Roamware (News - Alert), and added that Dynamic Call Rating boosted call traffic by prompting users to use their phones more during off-peak times at a discounted rate, improving RAN usage and increasing overall revenue.

The service benefits subscribers by providing spontaneous discounts as an incentive to use their mobile phones for longer periods of time when the discount level is high.

Headquartered in San Jose with operations in Brussels, Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Singapore, Dublin, Johannesburg, Amman and Hong Kong, Roamware, Inc., has a customer base of over 480 mobile operators across 154 countries. Its m-commerce and mobile banking solutions have been successfully deployed by major banks and global operators around the world.

In a related release, Roamware, Inc., launched Local Short Codes, a location-based service that routes mobile calls according to the subscriber's location.
