Mobitel Taps FTS's Next Gen Network Solutions Telecom Billing Platform

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

A new telecom billing platform has made its way into the marketplace and it is being touted as an easy-to-deploy billing product that has been specifically designed for entry-level ISPs, VoIP, MVNO, LTE, WiMAX (News - Alert), Wi-Fi, and IPTV operations who want a flexible solution that promotes growth and expansion. And other companies are taking notice.

The FTS (News - Alert) express solution, introduced by telecom provider FTS, has been deployed by Mobitel Nigeria. The platform will help support Mobitel as it grows its customer base, according to company officials.

"We will be experiencing fast growth over the next few years as we increase the range of services we offer to our customers," said Johnson Salako, CEO at Mobitel (News - Alert). "The FTS express solution fits in perfectly with our requirements as it can both grow with us and enable us to launch those new services quickly."

Mobitel, a wireless and wireline communication services provider, is striving to become Africa's most successful 4G network. The company offers a comprehensive range of services by using cutting-edge technologies and providing the platform of choice for seamlessly integrating the tools for a modern lifestyle, according to company officials.

Thanks to FTS express, Mobitel will be able to quickly introduce new services to its customer base. The all-in-one FTS express product offers online charging, billing, AAA, balance management, customer care, interconnect, and policy control, among other things.

A global provider of turnkey Next Gen Network Solutions acted as the systems integrator for the project and implemented the project. The FTS team worked in conjunction with Mobitel and the systems integrator to ensure that the deployment of the solution was quick, simple and efficient, according to company officials.

With the help of FTS express, Mobitel will be able to charge and bill for its range of VoIP, broadband and WiMAX services, as well as to enable the new services to be easily launched. In addition, using FTS express' business rules engine and policy control functionality, Mobitel is able to change the subscriber's bandwidth dynamically, based on his quota and financial status.

"The cost-effective nature of the solution, coupled with the ability to quickly and easily add extra components, makes FTS express the perfect solution for carriers such as Mobitel Nigeria," said Amos Sivan, CEO of FTS. "Africa is a hotbed of service innovation and the choice of billing system will either support or restrict that. FTS express has been created to support and enable this innovation."
