GCS Partner Telx Adds New Companies to its Ethernet Exchange

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

Telx, a leading interconnection and data center provider in strategic North American markets and a Global Convergence Solutions (News - Alert) (GCS) partner, has welcomed DukeNet Communications to its Telx Ethernet Exchange.

DukeNet Communications, a North-Carolina based fiber optic telecommunications provider, will make the process of interconnecting with service providers on a one-to-many basis more efficient and simpler by leveraging the Ethernet Exchange service.

“Getting connected to the Telx Ethernet Exchange expands our access to lit buildings in the Metro Atlanta area,” said Tony Cockerham, senior vice president of Sales and Business Development, DukeNet Communications, in a statement. “We see it as a quick and easy way to provide valuable exposure to our Ethernet services while enabling us to expand our reach by interconnecting to regional providers also on the Telx Ethernet Exchange.”

For the past year and a half, DukeNet has engaged in a major network expansion project in the Atlanta Metro area, lighting over 100 sites with its fiber optic network. The company is focused on delivering last-mile Ethernet services, including cell backhaul services, to carrier and Enterprise customers located in Metro Atlanta, around the I-285 corridor, and in surrounding areas such as Alpharetta, Marietta and Athens, Ga., according to company officials.

“The Telx Ethernet Exchange provides companies like DukeNet with multiple interconnectivity options that can be used to grow and expand business opportunities locally, regionally, nationally or internationally,” said Glenn Calafati, vice president of Interconnection Center Services for Telx. “With just one connection and one agreement, the Telx Ethernet Exchange enables service providers like DukeNet to access multiple operators and reduce the cost and time associated with bringing offerings to new markets and customers.”

Telx is a partner of GCS, a Next Gen Network Solutions (News - Alert) proprietary rating and routing company.

This week, while at International Telecoms Week (ITW), GCS and Razorsight, a leading provider of cloud-based business intelligence and profit analytics for the communications industry, unveiled its new initiative, which will allow both companies to jointly market, present and pursue global opportunities for their products and services by leveraging the existing sales, marketing and customer bases of both companies. Charlie Thomas, CEO of Razorsight (News - Alert), recently sat down with TMCnet to discuss the new partnership.

When asked why Razorsight decided to team with GCS (News - Alert), Thomas said, “The legacy solutions in the market today fall short when it comes to the dynamic types of routing, particularly for international carriers, but also for anyone moving to an IP centric environment. We think these guys have created an industry leading next generation platform to handle those traffic types more effectively and efficiently both from a cost, through point and performance perspective.”
