By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Dell, a partner of Global Convergence Solutions (News - Alert) (GCS), has selected Dublin as the site for the company’s first Cloud Research and Development (R&D) Center and its campus in Limerick as home to the first Dell (News - Alert) Solution Center built globally.

With this announcement, Dell is investing in a dedicated facility and staff to maximize the benefits of cloud computing by delivering IT flexibility, reduced operational costs, and accelerated time to market, company officials said.

The center will act as a proof of concept laboratory. It will help Dell customers leverage their existing hardware platforms while driving innovation, new development work and thought leadership in the cloud. The center will focus on developing OpenStack based capabilities, Storage-as-a-Service Solutions and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) enabling technology.

These technology investments in Dell’s global solutions and services capabilities are supported by the Irish government through the Irish Development Agency (IDA (News - Alert)). The announcement was made in Dublin by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Irish Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and Jeff Clarke, vice chairman, Global Operations & End User Computing Solutions, Dell.

“Ireland has become a focal point of global information technology development, and Dell’s decision to locate new strategic resources in Ireland will help us to realize our ambition of becoming a center of excellence for Cloud,” Kenny said.  “The caliber of Dell people and the nature of their work in Ireland are consistent with our ambition to be a knowledge-driven economy.”

Dell has previously announced  plans to invest $1 billion globally in new technology solutions and services. The new investment, according to company officials, will help Dell customers worldwide innovate and drive business results through new solutions, services, and cloud-based delivery options.

The company has also initiated recruitment drive for world class software engineers, IT architects, engineers and developers. It is expected that a total of 150 people will be recruited across both sites in the next two years.

The Dell Solution Center in Limerick is designed to give access to Dell technology and solutions experts. Customers can learn about Dell’s industry-focused solutions and domain expertise. Dell experts work with customers to help them make better use of their technology budgets so they can invest less on managing their infrastructure and more on technology innovation to grow their business.

In addition to these, the center will also play a leading role in the development of virtual desktop solutions globally for Dell. Virtual Desktop Solutions will enable customers to support virtually any end-user computing device, anytime, anywhere in a cost-effective, secure and predictable way, company officials said.. “Today’s announcement underscores Dell’s evolution to a services and solutions company with broad-based capabilities and expertise that helps customers succeed,” Clarke said. “The investments in Ireland are central to our broader strategy of establishing leadership in cloud computing and our commitment to help customers innovate and drive business results.”

Dell is a partner of GCS (News - Alert), a proprietary routing and rating Next Gen Networks Solutions company.

Recently, GCS and Razorsight, the leading cloud-based business intelligence and profit analytics solutions provider for the communications industry, unveiled their new initiative which will allow both companies to jointly market, present and pursue global opportunities for their products and services by leveraging the existing sales, marketing and customer bases of both companies.

“We are very excited about this partnership with Razorsight,” said Neal Axelrad, CEO of GCS in a statement. “By collaborating on marketing and sales opportunities, GCS & Razorsight will be able to address 99 percent of a carrier's back-office needs. This partnership reduces the sales cycle and allows our respective customers and prospects to gain a greater understanding of the entire solution set available to them in the market.”
