Ekinops Introduces Routing and Switching System for Carriers, Enterprises

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

Next generation leader Ekinops, a designer of optical equipment, has inked a partnership with Extreme Networks to introduce a line of integrated, scalable Layer 1, 2, and 3 Ethernet switching and routing systems.

With the new product line, Ekinops will be able to better address the switching, routing and optical transport needs of service providers, wireless carriers, data centers and enterprise IT networks.

“The Ekinops portfolio of integrated switching and routing products is so broad that it lets customers address a multitude of applications,” Rob Adams (News - Alert), vice president of global marketing for Ekinops, said in a statement. “These solutions scale from 10 gigabits per second to multiple terabits per second of switching and routing capacity and, when integrated with our transport solution, provide terabits of transport capability, as well.”

Ekinops – a company well known for its Ekinops 360 optical transport platform and associated aggregation, uncompressed video transport, and multiplexing products – will now be able to addresses a wider range of service provider, data center, and enterprise needs because of its new features.   The new Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert)-certified systems allow customers to choose the exact switching, routing, and transport capacity needed, as well as the necessary types, rates, and numbers of physical interfaces. Wireless Backhaul, Business Ethernet services, Carrier Ethernet, and triple or quad play are some of the Layer 1, 2, or 3 customer applications that the switching, routing, and transport offerings address, according to company officials.  Layer 2 and 3 capabilities include: MPLS, VPLS, IP routing, Carrier Ethernet, and Ethernet switching, including an integrated management capability focused on FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) and end-to-end service monitoring and provisioning. “If you have multiple applications, some requiring only Layer 1 transport or a mix of Carrier Ethernet and Layer 1 transport, we now have the toolkit to meet your needs. And the same family of products can be used for data center applications or your own internal IT needs,” Adams adds.

In related news,  Global Convergence Solutions (News - Alert) (GCS), a Next Gen Network Solutions proprietary routing and rating company, recently had lots to look forward to at International Telecoms Week (ITW), particularly sharing the news that it has formed a strategic marketing initiative with Razorsight (News - Alert).

GCS and Razorsight, the leading cloud-based business intelligence and profit analytics solutions provider for the communications industry, unveiled their new initiative in Washington D.C. today, announcing that the initiative will allow both companies to jointly market, present and pursue global opportunities for their products and services by leveraging the existing sales, marketing and customer bases of both companies.

“We are very excited about this partnership with Razorsight,” said Neal Axelrad, CEO of GCS (News - Alert) (News - Alert) in a statement. “By collaborating on marketing and sales opportunities, GCS & Razorsight will be able to address 99 percent of a carrier's back-office needs. This partnership reduces the sales cycle and allows our respective customers and prospects to gain a greater understanding of the entire solution set available to them in the market.”
