By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

This week Next Gen Network Solutions companies were honored for their leading-edge technology, particularly Comverse (News - Alert), whose billing solutions was recognized with an INTERNET TELEPHONY BSS/OSS Excellence Award.

Comverse, the world's premier provider of software and systems enabling converged billing and active customer management, mobile Internet, and value-added services, received the top accolade for the second year in a row for its Comverse ONE Billing and Active Customer Management solution.

"I am pleased to recognize Comverse's achievement with an INTERNET TELEPHONY BSS/OSS Excellence Award again this year. As a repeat winner, they continue to distinguish themselves in the industry with a commitment to innovation that translates to profitable growth for their customers," stated Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) , CEO, TMC, in a press release. "Congratulations to the entire team at Comverse and I look forward to continued excellence."

Comverse was just as excited to receive the accolade.

“It is an exceptional honor to be a repeat winner of this esteemed award recognizing companies whose business support systems and operations support systems have excelled in contributing to the success of their clients' businesses," said Roni Levy, head of Comverse BSS.

In other news, telecommunications service provider Pac-West (News - Alert) Telecomm announced that Columbia Ventures Corporation (CVC), Pac-West's parent company, has invested additional capital in the company, a move that will allow Pac-West to expand and develop its orignaiton offerings and cloud-based service line.

“Pac-West has leveraged cloud-based services with our Telastic line in a manner that has completely changed what is possible for us to provide to our customers,” said Jim Hensel, CEO of Pac-West, in a statement.

Also this week, Acme Packet (News - Alert), a provider of session delivery networks, announced that Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines, has extended its deployment of Acme Packet session border controllers (SBCs).

Acme is currently responsible for carrying much of the country's international voice traffic. Accordingly, it needed to meet the increasing demands for SIP-based interconnect from international operators. Acme Packet's solution supports a wide range of codecs and transcoding, so it is able to offer premium interconnect services to address an expanded PLDT (News - Alert) market opportunity, company officials said.
