Mac owners are not happy with the Office 365 for Mac 2011 suite, as evidenced by the comments listed on the Office for Mac blog. Under the post that declares, “We’re ready for Mountain Lion!” is a slew of complaints that suggests that no, they really are not.
Users have called the Office for Mac 2011 suite “absolutely dreadful,” “fuzzy,” “blurry,” and even “crap.”
ComputerWorld further investigated the statements and found that the majority of complaints involve the lack of Retina support crucial to MacBook Pro users. For MacBook Pro users, Office for Mac 2011 has been such a disappointment that some have stated that they wished they never switched away from 2008 version – which does have Retina support—or that they adopted Apple’s (News
- Alert) iWork suite which updated its apps to coincide with Mountain Lion’s debut.
According to sources, Apple will continue to move in the Retina-display direction.
Microsoft (News
- Alert) can save face if they release immediate updates to Mac 2011, but according to critics, the technology giant tends to downplay its flops. In fact, the company already released a statement that declared that other than selected updates it “will make no other immediate changes.” This should come as no surprise to IT administratorswho waited a month before Microsoft released fixes to critical security flaws found within Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 systems.
Although a member of the Office for Mac team stated that Outlook 2011 was equipped with Retina- support, no other apps were mentioned. That means Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. are not likely to work either.
Perhaps what really hit a lot of nerves was Microsoft’s statement that they are “Mountain Lion ready.” David Ebert expressed that this claim should be changed to “it merely works on Mountain Lion”— at least until Microsoft adds Retina Support as well as “full-screen mode and iCloud.”
Other critics claim that Mac 2011 isn’t even Lion ready – let alone Mountain Lion ready.
