Office 365 is Ideal When it Comes to the Enterprise
By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer
Office 365 is certainly the most complete suite of solutions that is currently on the market, but is it good enough to beat out some more well known and some completely free solutions, especially when it comes to people or businesses who are looking to slash costs?
Microsoft (News - Alert) has long been one of the top firms for enterprise companies to turn to and Office 365 is the next step for the enterprise community. The costs for Office 365 are not nearly as prohibitive as some of the other choices and features like “click-to-run” enable users to implement Office 365 as soon as possible.
When it comes to comparing Office 365 to other cloud-based offerings like Google (News - Alert) Docs or open source documents, the name of the game is enterprise. Google Docs has some pretty good programs in its repertoire, but it simply doesn’t carry the same kind of power and backup capabilities that Office 365 does. When it comes to most open source programs, there simply isn’t enough there to be worth an enterprise company’s time. Apple (News - Alert) has done a pretty good job of making up ground with its iWork suites, but in the end the programs are just too consumer focused.
While individual consumers can certainly use Office 365, and to some extent Microsoft is looking to make inroads in this market, enterprises have needs that iWorks and Pages simply cannot fulfill. In this battle, the ability to move to the cloud using Office 365 might have be the silver bullet that will win this fight for good. Being able to use the programs wherever you want and not having to worry about installing something on one computer and only using that computer or buying a ton of licenses can make a huge difference.
