SherWeb Takes on Office 365 in a Big Way

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

When it comes to running your office through the cloud, most enterprise-sized companies are going to want to turn to Office 365. While most people assume that the company is positioning Office 365 to be the undisputed champion of all cloud-based platforms, there are companies that are trying to take a run at Microsoft (News - Alert) with their own offerings. Among the top competitors to is a company whose name could be on the tips of most enterprise companies tongues by the end of 2013 if they play their cards right. SherWeb is offering up a service called SkyOffice that appears to be a legitimate challenger to the burgeoning Office 365 empire.

SkyOffice is touted as having three separate plans that allow for easy email hosting and storage, depending on what your specific needs are and pricing is only one of the reasons small businesses and individual users should give it a closer look. Sherweb is courtingits customers by offering up services and technical support that are far and away better than what Microsoft’s Office 365 offers up front. Among the features of SkyOffice are public folders using an Exchange 2010 mailbox. This function is simply not available in Office 365 and can make quite a bit of difference when sorting and storing your e-mail. SkyOffice also offers up 50 mb of attachment and message space, while Office 365 offers just half of that.

When problems arise, SkyOffice is better set up to help you in real-time, as the company powers 24/7 expert chat support and phone support. Office 365 has no live chat network and only offers phone support with certain plans; while SkyOffice includes this from the get go. When it comes to migration and security, the offering has surprised many by being better than Office 365 at both. MIDAS migration is offered at the ground floor, whereas Office 365 has limited migration and even more limited support when a problem arises in the migration process. E-mail archiving and online backups are also available with SkyOffice to a degree that you just don’t see with Office 365.

With these features, SherWeb is making sure that it is a real competitor in the market when it comes to moving to the cloud and it appears the company is here to stay for the long run.
