If you have been using SharePoint 2013, you are likely familiar with the powerful functionality of third party apps that solve a specific end-user or business need. Microsoft recently revealed that it will also offer Windows 8, Windows Phone (News - Alert) and iOS native mobile SharePoint-connected applications beginning early 2013, which is good news to SharePoint users. To sweeten the pot even further, MetaVis Technologies will be bringing in more third-party apps that will extend SharePoint and Office 365 capabilities.
At the recent Microsoft (News
- Alert) SharePoint Conference, MetaVis Technologies Co-Founder and President, Peter Senescu, pointed to the many new features in SharePoint 2013 that allow better management and organization of customer content. He said that MetaVis products are SharePoint 2013 ready which will make it easier for users looking to better manage their SharePoint content. In addition, Senescu stated that the company will be previewing the new solutions to help customers prepare and plan their 2013 strategies successfully.
The Information Manager for the Office 365 app, for example, makes content management simple by supporting bulk tagging and content classification directly within the SharePoint ribbon. Users can mass assign metadata values in a single operation and copy metadata values between different content types.
Further, the Term Store Manager for SharePoint allows administrators to easily manage their term stores with the ability to create and edit terms, synonyms, hierarchies and translations either one at a time or in bulk. It analyzes taxonomy hierarchies quickly detecting missing language translations, supports on-premises and hosted SharePoint Term Stores , all while using a rich GUI with drag and drop editing features.
Informant for SharePoint helps govern content, enforce compliance and mitigate risks in SharePoint and Office 365. Content across organizations is growing at an exponential rate and a lot of it is uncontrolled and unmanaged since it resides either on Microsoft SkyDrive, DropBox, Google (News
- Alert) Docs, Amazon S3, Outlook or on legacy file shares. Informant for SharePoint helps analyze various types of content and simultaneously assures compliance, reduce risk and automate governance. Also, the SharePoint Pre-Migration Assessment tool analyzes the SharePoint environment to help migrate, re-organize and maintain content. The Information Manager Power User allows migration and tagging of content in both SharePoint and Office 365.
Apps for SharePoint and Office 365 alike seamlessly integrate the best the Web has to offer consumers and the new MetaVis applications will no doubt extend these functionalities to an unparalleled level.
