Microsoft Rewards Recent Office 2010 Buyers, Current Office 365 Subscribers

By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Despite the aggressive push by Microsoft (News - Alert) for its users to adopt its cloud computing services including Office 365, a lot of people are still opting for the boxed copy. If by any chance you are one of these people who still feel apprehensive about paying for a cloud service that you are not yet comfortable with, we have good news for you. Microsoft has decided to reward anyone buying the boxed copy of Office 2010 with a free upgrade to Office 2013. The free upgrade will only be applicable if you bought Office 2010 between October 19, 2012 and April 30, 2013.

New purchases of Office 2010 are not the only ones to get this free upgrade however. Anyone with a subscription to the Office 365 releases also gets the complimentary upgrade to Office 2013 when it ships. The hope with this promotion is that the company will be able to encourage people to try out the new product and realize that when it launches new solutions, customers should then immediately jump on board.

What are some good things about the new version of Office? The main Office apps like Word and Access are there but now come with new interface changes, cloud integration and extra communication services. Microsoft has also gone a step further in how you store documents in the new product as SkyDrive is now touted as the default location for storing documents. If the cloud storage features appeal to you, then you will love what the technology giant has done in how you access these documents. Some of the new, cool features include the ability to migrate preferences when you change between machines and the ability to log into a virtualized copy of Office and access it even on machines where the software is not installed. And, of course, the use of a touch interface within the product is revolutionary.

You can further extend the functionality of Office 365 by use of third-party cloud services like SkyOffice from SherWeb which includes not only Microsoft technologies but other exclusive solutions. Third-party support like that allows you to seamlessly integrate your business practices with personalized solutions that let you enjoy the cloud your way.
