Foxit Corporation, a provider of PDF document software, just announced that its Reader and PhantomPDF products will now support Microsoft's (News
- Alert) Active Directory Rights Management Service (AD RMS) SDK 2.0 and AD RMS Client 2.0.
Foxit Reader has been a "Microsoft-preferred" reader for PDF files in AD RMS 2.0, SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online within Microsoft's Office 365. The new versions of Foxit's products include compliance information rights management (IRM) for the PDF Specification Supplement proposal, detailed in ISO 32000, by Microsoft.
Information rights management allows you to determine who gets access to information and what hands it can pass through. The protection methods used in IRM are similar to those used in digital rights management (DRM) for music and movies, making this standard very favorable for corporate environments in which sensitive data bounces around.
Since PDFs show text and images, IMR can work in several ways, such as protecting the context from being copied and pasted onto another empty document.
"We are excited to partner with Foxit to extend support for PDF in AD RMS and SharePoint environments. Foxit Reader's performance, security, and enterprise-ready capabilities make it a Microsoft preferred PDF reader in AD RMS and SharePoint environments," said Dan Plastina, information protection team partner group program manager of Microsoft Corporation.
Foxit Reader's integration of Microsoft's standards introduces important security features such as file encryption and decryption within a collaborative environment based on access permissions.
Philip G. Lee, vice president of enterprise sales at Foxit, said, "Document security is becoming an increasing issue as enterprises are putting more and more digitalized documents on the network. We are excited to be a Microsoft preferred partner for PDF reading in AD RMS 2.0 and SharePoint environments."
Foxit has appeased enterprise customers because of its fast and affordable products. Its implementation is very simple and its rigid security makes it very enterprise-friendly. Foxit's PDF software has more than 90 thousand users in more than 150 countries.
