Webjet Turns to Office 365

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Building on the success of several future-proof technologies from Microsoft (News - Alert), companies across the world are quickly adopting Office 365, SharePoint and Lync—the latest collaboration technologies from the software giant.

One of the latest to join the club of Office 365 is Webjet, Australia and New Zealand’s largest online travel booking website.

With Office 365, the travel website hopes to achieve greater flexibility in a competitive marketplace, support its growth and drive its goal of delivering superior customer service. It also hopes to reduce administrative time and maintenance costs previously associated with server maintenance which will allow its IT division to focus on more strategic projects.

The announcement comes as the company looks to fuel the next phase of its growth after posting a phenomenal surge in online visitor traffic and bookings in 2012. The company recorded a 30 percent increase in its overall total transaction value to $768 million for 2012.

“Office 365 will allow us to scale our business activity as we continue to diversify our product offerings domestically and expand the Webjet brand globally,” said Graham Anderson, head of Solutions Delivery at Webjet, in a statement.

“We will have the ability to add new employees and ensure that we continue to attract talent that is interested in working for a company that provides the best technological tools to help them do their jobs,” Anderson added.

The company chose Office 365 because the hybrid offering gives greater flexibility and reliability when implementing it in the cloud or on-premises, according to Anderson. With Office 365 in place, the company does not have to spend time adding storage, servers or deploying people to maintain those servers.

The business also plans to deploy Lync Online in 2013 to allow Webjet employees to more easily share files, schedule online meetings and chat, streamline communications and cut through unnecessary e-mails.
