Office 365 Continues to Dominate the Virtual Marketplace

By Monica Gleberman, Contributing Writer

Considering the current economy, it’s no surprise that companies of all sizes are looking to do the impossible: slash costs while increasing profits. Many have looked to the cloud, specifically Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Office 365 to streamline communication across their entire business.

In the past week alone, retail chain Dixon and global infrastructure consultancy group Opus both revealed they had begun to implement Office 365. This offering will allow employees to work from a remote location including their house or even a Starbucks, which in turn will cut down the overhead costs within these organizations tremendously.

Opus’ Chief Information Officer Bruce Tinsley confirmed the company’s deployment of Office 365 saying that he wanted a system that was “up-to-date, flexible, and agile” and a system that grew with his company.

Microsoft said the reason for its Office 365 success is simple; it offers everything a business could want. “Customers are choosing Microsoft productivity solutions because they deliver a more complete experience and greater flexibility to move to the cloud on the customer’s terms,” added Eddie O’Brien, vice president, Operator Channels, Microsoft. “With AT&T’s (News - Alert) wealth of experience working with small businesses, customers using Office 365 will have an always up-to-date service that deliver enhanced features and new capabilities as soon as they are available.”

Further, in a recent report titled, “The Forrester (News - Alert) Wave: Cloud Strategies of Online Collaboration Software Vendors,”  the role that online collaboration tools play including Office 365 was highlighted to be an important tool for companies and found it to be expanding in the marketplace.

“SharePoint is rapidly becoming the multi-disciplined platform of choice for many organizations promising ECM, records management, collaboration, search and more straight out of the box,” commented David Jones, AIIM market analyst and author of “The SharePoint Puzzle – Adding the Missing Pieces,“ in a statement.
