BRIEF: Victorville woman held in cell phone extortion scheme
ADELANTO, Nov 07, 2012 (San Bernardino County Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Sheriff's deputies on Monday arrested a Victorville woman on suspicion of trying to extort money from a woman for the return of her cell phone.
Delfina Gutierrez, 46, was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of extortion and drug possession.
The victim told deputies she lost her cell phone at a Carl's Jr. restaurant in Adelanto. When she called and sent text messages to her phone to see if someone had it, Gutierrez responded and said she would only return the phone for $100 in cash, sheriff's officials said.
The victim made arrangements to meet Gutierrez at a gas station on Mall Boulevard in Victorville. Deputies waited at the location and arrested the suspect when she arrived.
