Marc Steinorth and Sam Spagnolo win Rancho Cucamonga council seats

Nov 07, 2012 (Inland Valley Daily Bulletin - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- According to final election results Wednesday, Marc Steinorth and Sam Spagnolo won the open seats over appointed incumbent Chuck Buquet, and candidates Jim Moffatt, Erick Jimenez and Anthony Rice.

"I'm flattered, I'm humbled and I'm very excited to get to the work of serving the people of Rancho Cucamonga," Steinorth said. "I want to thank everyone that helped the campaign and trusted in the vision that we shared for how to bring this city to even greater prosperity." Spagnolo said he's humbled by the voters having confidence in him.

"This is my third term, and I don't take that lightly. I believe the voters trust me or they wouldn't have elected me, and I'm anxious to get back," Spagnolo said.

On the new member of the council, "Marc is going to sit down and we're going to work out and listen to what he has to say. We'll work all those things out. It's a lot different from the campaign." Buquet, who was appointed to fill Mayor Dennis Michael's seat after the 2010 mayoral election, ran to remain on the council. Incumbent Mayor pro tem Spagnolo was up for re-election.

They faced challengers Steinorth, the owner of an advertising company; Jimenez, a Fed-Ex driver; Rice, a businessman; and Moffatt, a coffee shop owner.

The new or returning council members are expected to face issues over spending and revenue in the wake of the dissolution of redevelopment agencies, landscaping costs, further city growth and development, and the potential fallout from a decision either for or against a contentious funeral home project moving forward.

Biographical and platform information for each of the candidates is available here.
