AMR Introduces New Bariatric Ambulance Program in Bernalillo County
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --(Business Wire)--
American Medical Response (AMR) announces the introduction of its new
bariatric ambulance program in Bernalillo County. The first and only
service of its type to serve the area, AMR's new ambulance is designed
to safely transport patients who weigh up to 1,200 pounds.
AMR created this program to provide patients with safe, comfortable and
dignified medical transportation. AMR bariatric ambulances are equipped
with ergonomically placed lifts, custom-designed winch and track systems
to load patients, and widened, reinforced cots to increase the comfort
and safety of patients. Additionally, all AMR Bernalillo County EMTs and
paramedics have completed AMR's Bariatric Training Progra. The training
program addresses the special medical concerns of bariatric patients and
ways to safely and respectfully position and transport a bariatric
patient.
"The standard equipment used by ambulance service providers is often not
designed to accommodate larger and heavier patients, resulting in
potential safety hazards for patients and the crews who transport them,"
said AMR Operations Manager Joaquin Graham. "The new bariatric ambulance
significantly reduces those risks and increases the comfort and dignity
of these special-need patients."
