Police: Man damaged Round Rock church during thefts

Nov 26, 2012 (Austin American-Statesman - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Round Rock man was arrested this month after police say he caused thousands of dollars in damage to St. John Vianney Catholic Church while stealing from the church on multiple occasions during October and November.

Hector Ademio Garcia, 24, was in jail Monday, facing three charges of robbery of a building and three charges of criminal mischief -- all felonies -- jail records show. His bond was set at $55,000, according to jail records.

Three laptops, a keyboard, a mouse, a computer monitor and a surge protector -- all reported stolen from the church -- were found by the church entrance Oct. 15 and fingerprints on them were linked to Garcia, according to arrest records.

On Oct. 30, a deacon at the church told police someone had pried a door open and then entered the church and caused damage to four interior wooden doors, arrest records said.

On Nov. 2, another church official told police someone had pried another door open, according to arrest records. The person stole the contents of the donation box -- about $70 -- leaving behind a $5 bill, according to arrest records.

On Nov. 14, surveillance video showed Garcia attempting to enter the church by using a pry bar on an aluminum door, according to an arrest affidavit.

The next day police arrested Garcia, who told police he had used a crowbar on every exterior door of the building, according to arrest records. In all, Garcia is accused of causing $11,600 in damage to doors throughout the building, according to arrest records. Officials at the church told police they did not know Garcia.
