Dec 03, 2012 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
An 18-year-old parolee and a 17-year-old girl have been charged with robbing two people and stealing their black BMW in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood on the North Side, police said.
The victims were sitting in the car in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue around 3:45 a.m. Saturday when Larnell A. Brown walked up to the driver's side, police said. Brown told the man behind the wheel that he shouldn't park there because Brown's car had been towed from there, according to a police report.
Brown walked away but came back a few minutes later and told the driver it cost $160 to get Brown's car back, then he walked away again. Brown returned a third time with a pistol and ordered the driver and an 18-year-old woman out of the car, according to the police report.
The woman was trying to dial 911 but had trouble unlocking her phone, police said. The other suspect, Kaylin M. Macklin, 17, approached the passenger side, reached in and grabbed the phone and told Brown "numerous times" to shoot them, the report said.
No shots were fired, and Brown and Macklin fled north on Kenmore in the BMW. A police alert was sent out and a Rogers Park District beat officer saw the car, unoccupied, in the 1000 block of West Glenlake with the keys still inside, according to the report.
The officer saw Brown and Macklin walking in the 6100 block of North Sheridan Road. They were taken into custody and identified by the victims, according to the report.
Brown and Macklin were both charged with felony vehicular hijacking.
Brown, of the 6800 block of South Champlain Avenue, was paroled on Oct. 11 after being sentenced for an unlawful use of a weapons conviction, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections website. He was serving a one-year sentence at the Danville Correctional Center when he was paroled, according to IDOC.
Macklin lives in the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue.
