BRIEF: Detroit, nonprofit partnership offers homeless relief at warming centers

Dec 21, 2012 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- People who need a temporary break from the winter cold and do not use other homeless shelters in Detroit can find relief at two warming centers provided as part of a partnership between the city of Detroit and two nonprofit organizations.


Cass Community Social Services, at 3901 Cass Avenue between Woodward Avenue and Second Street, has 50 beds. It serves only women and children.

Operation Get Down, at 6821 Medbury Street between the I-94 service drive and East Grand Boulevard, has about 200 beds and serves women, men and children.

Both centers will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., including holidays, during inclement weather. Additional daytime hours will be added under extremely cold conditions.
