Transport department to introduce smart card licences in 10 districts [Lucknow] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The transport department is introducing issuance of smart card driving licences in 10 districts of UP namely: Lucknow, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Agra, Jhansi, Allahabad, Barabanki, Varanasi, Aligarh and Meerut in the first phase from January 2013. Forms for applying for driving licence have been simplified and made available on the website www.uptransport.org. After submitting the application and completing the process of biometrics and deposit of fee, the applicant will be asked to verify their details on the computer screen in the RTO before details are printed on the smart card.


Seminar held: The two-day national seminar on 'Media and law interface: issues and challenges' ended on Saturday. Justice Vishnu Sahai, member, State Human Rights Commission, UP, was the chief guest at the seminar. In his address Justice Sahai said that it is the duty of the media to expose corruption and arbitrary use of power by the public authorities. He said that reporters should follow principle of auto-limitation and should report news which is conducive to the national interest. Prof Balraj Chauhan, vice-chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow said that there is a greater need of transparency and accountability in media functioning.

Pension adalat held: The 37th pension adalat was organised in the office of commissioner, Lucknow on Saturday under the chairmanship of commissioner Lucknow Sanjiv Mittal. In this pension adalat, out of 16 pension related matters, 21 matters were disposed of on the spot. The commissioner has directed all heads of various government departments to correct entries in service books and pension documents by January 20.

HAL chairman visits Lucknow unit: RK Tyagi, chairman, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) visited the Accessories Division of HAL on Saturday. He was welcomed by SK Jha, managing director (accessories), CK Vishwakarma, general manager, accessories division, V Srinivasan, general manager (finance) and ZA Asif, general manager (design). The chairman inspected the facilities of Sukhoi-30 MKI project in the accessories division. He also interacted with senior executives of design department and was given a presentation on the design of the accessories division.
