Hyundai look to smart future [Lincolnshire Echo (England)]

(Lincolnshire Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Hyundai has showcased new technology to greater integrate the increasing capability of smartphones into cars.

The connectivity technology, which will see production in 2015, allows drivers to use their smartphone to wirelessly open their car and stream an individualised profile of data and entertainment to the car''s main screen. On an i30 that has been specially built with the new gadgets, Hyundai has demonstrated how a phone can open a car using near-field communication technology similar to that already used to make certain payments in some cities.

Then once the car is open, placing the phone into a dedicated cradle in the centre console syncs the device''s screen to that of the main in-car unit, displaying a customisable range of data or music choices.

The phone battery is also recharged wirelessly while it''s in the cradle. Allan Rushforth, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: Hyundai''s Connectivity Concept showcases the brand''s philosophy of making tomorrow''s technology accessible to a wide range of customers.

As the technology continually develops, there will be capabilities to store driver''s seating positions and exterior mirror settings, providing customers with a comfortable and individual driving environment.

Hyundai claims multiple users can use the system with no change in functionality, since the system only uses data and instructions programmed into the user''s own phone.
