BRIEF: Expensive cameras stolen from bicycle store

HOLLYWOOD, Feb 08, 2013 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A shoplifting suspect was caught on camera stealing cameras from a popular Hollywood bicycle shop on Wednesday, according to the shop owner.

Anthony Chin said the man has been in his store before and may live in the area.

"He came in here previously trying to sell steak, frozen steak, and we never bought any and he left," Chin said. "One of our mechanics recognized him on camera." The Big Wheel Bicycles shop at 7035 Taft Street sold the expensive, shock resistant GoPro cameras to attach to handlebars or bicycle helmets. A cable secured the camera packaging to the display stand.

"He would act like a customer and when everyone was busy he cut the cable and stole two cameras which are like $400 each," Chin said.

The cameras are coded with serial numbers that can be traced back to the store, he said.

The store's surveillance cameras recorded the crime and Chin is hoping someone will recognize and report the suspect to the police.

Investigators urge anyone with information to call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-8477.
