Quick-eating contest is for the dogs
Feb 14, 2013 (Walla Walla Union-Bulletin - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The one-year anniversary of Andrae's Kitchen at the Walla Walla Farmers Co-op is aimed at AK-47 fans.
The celebration, including a ribbon-cutting by the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce, will include an AK-47-eating contest. Not familiar with the famous hot dog created by chef Andrae Bopp
The $10 menu item is a bacon-wrapped quarter-pound hot dog topped with poutine -- hand-cut fries, gravy, cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions.
Five people will have a chance to battle head-to-head to see who can eat one the fastest. The winner will get free AK-47s for a year and an additional prize from Inland Cellular, which is partnering with the Chamber and Andrae's Kitchen on the event.
An as-yet-unnamed celebrity ringer is also expected to compete.
The showdown at the co-op, 706 W. Rose St., takes place March 2.
Starting Monday potential competitors can enter their names for consideration. A random selection will pick the participants. Those interested can text "AKS" to 87940. Doing so will also create a database of people who will be able to take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free sandwich and AK-47 offer the weekend of the celebration. Those who want the deal but not the foodie face-off can opt out of the latter if their names are selected.
Potential participants have until March 3 to enter. Competitors will be selected March 4. The ribbon-cutting takes place at 4 p.m., with the food competition at 4:30 p.m.
