Spy agency wants law to save phone call information

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation wants data retention laws to be amended. The agency wrote in a submission to a federal parliamentary inquiry into international security laws that telephone and internet companies should be obliged to retain metadata, which is often of crucial importance in investigating criminal activity. The Australian Federal Police has called for a two-year retention period for metadata.
