Poll: 83% of Top Echelon Recruiters Believe Resume 'Just as Important'

Canton, Ohio, Feb 26, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Most, if not all, people would agree that technology has transformed the employment landscape in recent years. This includes the way in which companies interview and hire people to fill their job openings.

With the advent and ever-increasing popularity of social media sites such as LinkedIn, one might expect that the traditional resume is less important than it once was. After all, candidates now often have the option of "applying with LinkedIn" to jobs of interest.

But what do executive recruiters think According to a recent poll conducted by Top Echelon Network, an elite network of highly specialized search firms, 83% of Network recruiters indicated that they believe the traditional resume is "just as important" as it was 10 years ago.

As part of that poll, Top Echelon Network asked the following question: "Is the traditional resume as important to the hiring process as it was 10 years ago " Over fourth-fifths of poll participants (83.0%) stated that, "Yes, it's just as important." However, that wasn't the most surprising aspect of the poll results. That's because 12.5% of recruiters indicated that the traditional resume is "even more important" to the hiring process than it was 10 years ago.

On the other end of the spectrum, 2.3% of poll participants were of the opinion that the resume is "a little less important." Another 2.3% believe that the resume is "much less important." According to Top Echelon Network President Mark Demaree, those who believe that the traditional resume is a thing of the past may be getting ahead of themselves.

"While it's true that there are more online tools and avenues available for both job seekers and companies, resumes aren't going anywhere anytime soon," said Demaree. "Resumes themselves may change in terms of form and format, continuing to evolve over time, but to say that they'll disappear altogether would be premature. Rumors of the traditional resume's demise are greatly exaggerated." Top Echelon Network was founded in 1988 in Canton, Ohio. Nearly 400 recruiting firms from all major industries are Preferred Member recruiters in Top Echelon Network.
