Family tax ripe for budget axe
Feb 27, 2013 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Australian Government could achieve significant savings by making eligibility changes to Part B of the Family Tax Benefit (FTB). Ben Phillips from the National Centre for Social & Economic Modelling says no longer paying FTB Part B to dual-parent families with a combined income of more than $A100,000 could save $A500m a year. An additional $A1.5bn in savings could be achieved by further tightening of eligibility for FTB Part B, although Phillips doubts any changes would be made in what is an election year.
