ECOtality to use ABB's Sales Distribution Channels

According to a recent agreement signed with ABB, ECOtality, Inc. will use ABB’s sales distribution channels to offer ECOtality’s Blink electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to ABB’s network of North American commercial and utility customers.
ABB and ECOtality have signed some big contracts in the past, which has strengthened their relationship, including a deal in which ABB invested $10 million in ECOtality.
“This agreement allows us to meet the growing demands of our North American utility customers for an integrated end-to-end EV charging solution,” said Murray Jones, vice president of EV Infrastructure at ABB Inc, in a statement. “Together, ECOtality and ABB are combining our knowledge of the smart grid, and intelligent EV infrastructure solutions to empower utilities, EV drivers, and all the players in between, to prepare for, and manage electric vehicles.”
“ABB and ECOtality are operating with a complete EV toolset—together we are creating a total EV solution that provides smart grid-ready technologies from the garage to the power pole to the power plant that are essential to bringing electric vehicles onto the grid,” added Jonathan Read, CEO of ECOtality. “By coupling ABB’s power management expertise and its global value chains with our Blink smart charging stations, we are able to provide utility customers complete turnkey solutions that range from consulting to advanced hardware deployments."
According to ECOtality officials, the Blink product suite offers “unparalleled energy management capabilities” to both the utility and the consumer that meet their current needs and anticipate future demands.
Launched recently, ECOtality’s Blink charging stations allow consumers and utility companies the ability to perform better energy management, smart meter management and interaction, and demand response capabilities.
ECOtality recently released the Blink Mobile Application for smartphones and mobile devices that extends the capabilities of the Blink Network The Blink Mobile Application allows users to access the Blink Network anywhere. The Blink Mobile Application is a multi-use, multi-platform, multi-device application that is available for both Blink Members and non-members of the Blink Network. Users will be able to locate Blink Chargers and receive information about charging stations and availability, as well as charging status updates and notifications.
