As Hurricane Isaac bore down on the Florida coastline, the OB/GYN center of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. decided to cancel their Monday appointments. Thanks to PhoneRover, the practice was able to notify every patient of the cancellations without requiring staff to come into the office.

PhoneRover had recently upgraded its communications service and telecommunications infrastructure so that healthcare providers could provide rapid notification to both patients and staff concerning office closures, delays or appointment cancellations in the wake of Isaac.

“After witnessing the chaos Tropical Storm Isaac created for local schools, businesses and even the Republican National Convention, we decided to make our weather related notifications free for all Healthcare Providers throughout the US, whether they're a paying client or not,” explained Brian Maguire, co-founder and CEO at PhoneRover. “We have the resources and technology to help people stay safe and better informed.”

PhoneRover is accessible from any PC that has an Internet connection. Clients aren’t required to purchase equipment, maintain software or keep a dedicated phone service. Most providers use the rapid notification service to make automated calls or to send SMS messages about upcoming appointments.

With Isaac approaching, PhoneRover saw an opportunity to extend their automated calls and SMS message service to communicate about inclement weather. The solution can make up to 60 calls per minute.

In addition to helping healthcare providers, PhoneRover enables both schools and municipalities to send out rapid notification messages.

In addition to providing automated calls and texts, PhoneRover delivers on-hold services using top-notch, multilingual voice talent and licensed music. On-Hold Players, unlike mp3 players or CD players, are compatible with most phone systems and restart automatically after a power outage.

For providers who want to create their own messaging, a Web-based message studio allows recording of messages from any telephone. Practices can answer patient FAQs, promote their services, reduce wait-time complaints and enhance their professional images.

PhoneRover is also compatible with most electronic health record (EHR) solutions.
