Policy Management – City of El Paso Deploys Motion Tablet PCs Powered by Accela Software

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Motion Computing, a provider of integrated mobile computing solutions, has claimed that the City of El Paso is deploying Motion Tablet PCs powered by software from Accela (News - Alert) in order to increase productivity, documentation quality and team satisfaction across departments.

El Paso is already an existing Accela customer and it had recently chosen Accela Mobile Office to be employed across departments including the Department of Public Health; Environmental Services Department’s Solid Waste, Vector Control, and Code Enforcement Divisions; Parks Department, and Fire Marshall’s Office.

The Accela app’s advanced mobility features encouraged the city officials to also search for the best mobile field device. They wanted a highly mobile, yet robust, computing device that would replace high-priced computers that were too cumbersome and heavy to enable full mobility. After an extensive search they chose Motion’s rugged F5 and J3400 Tablet PCs for its lightweight and mobile designs, rugged durability including the available solid state drive (SSD), outdoor display and integrated mobile broadband with GPS. The stylus input feature of the devices allows the capture digital signatures in the field.

Suzy Santo, department administrative manager at El Paso Environmental Services Department has commented that they were challenged to select a new mobility solution that would meet the unique needs of each division. With the Motion Tablets, they found devices that would enable them to fully utilize the Accela solution, while offering the mobility that their field teams require. After working with several devices that were not tailored to field use, they were really excited about the mobility and durability available with the Motion Tablets. With powerful performance and the ability to run robust technology solutions there is no need to compromise on power, weight or functionality.

According to officials, Motion tablets complement the city’s upgrade to Accela Mobile Office, which extends processing capabilities to the field for inspections, code enforcement and work orders. Especially the feature ‘create-and-store capability’ that allows later syncing was very essential as El Paso’s mountainous terrain often causes lost connectivity during transactions. The tablet’s integrated features is purported to allow field teams to capture barcodes, or integrate pictures and digital signatures into files and share them with office-based personnel which will only enhance documentation quality, productivity and collaboration.
