WinMagic Recognized as a Visionary in the Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant for 2010

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Gartner’s (News - Alert) Magic Quadrant, a graphical representation of a marketplace for a specific time period, has recognized WinMagic as a visionary in its Mobile Data Protection (MDP) system. The MDP system is a much needed procedure to protect data privacy and to comply with audit requirements as well. The Magic Quadrant depicts Gartner’s analysis of vendor criterion for a specific marketplace. Gartner neither endorses any vendor, product or service, nor does it advertise technology users. The Magic Quadrant is meant to be used only as a research tool.

WinMagic, a recognized leader in full-disk encryption (FDE), is committed to research and development. It provides innovative features, comprehensive certifications and a complete platform support to Windows, Mac, and Linux. WinMagic’s SecureDoc, concentrates primarily on the customer’s need to secure Personal Identifiable Information (PII), Personal Health Information (PHI) and other sensitive data. It is an innovative product which provides pre-boot authentication, encrypts removable media and supports multiple platforms, along with new security technologies. It supports Seagate (News - Alert) self-encrypting (Drive Trust) drives, Opal compliant self-encrypting drives, TPM, Intel Anti-Theft Technology, Seagate's Black Armor external drive, IronKey, SanDisk (News - Alert), Kingston and MXI thumb drives as well as EFI.

SecureDoc is compatible with multiple platforms, all the editions of Microsoft Windows, Mac, and Linux, and also with CAC and PIV cards. SecureDoc has been designed to protect data which is stored on servers, laptops, desktops, and removable media such as USB thumbs or pen drives. SecureDoc is simple and easy to manage centrally. It uses standard drives and self-encrypting drives, and seamlessly adds full disk encryption management. Organizations can take full advantage on the latest products available in the market. SecureDoc ensures that the data cannot be accessed unless the laptop is disabled, even if the hard drive is removed and installed on another computer, preventing data leakage.

In a release, the Vice President & Distinguished Analyst, Gartner Inc., John Girard, said that, "MDP is an established market with two primary purposes: first and foremost, to protect data by encryption; and second, to provide evidence that the protection is working. Gartner client inquiry calls steadily continue to request assistance in understanding, choosing and implementing data encryption. The number of calls indicating lack of knowledge about data leakage and the tendency to protect subsets of vulnerable devices provide additional validation that data protection is still inadequate across industries."

The President & CEO, WinMagic Inc., Thi Nguyen-Huu, added that, "WinMagic is very proud to be recognized as a visionary by Gartner's prestigious Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant for 2010. We have always invested heavily in R&D, and the result has been many industry firsts that set the bar for data protection on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms, making it easier for users and more secure than ever before."
