Sandvine Network Policy Control Solutions Optimize Network Conditions for Service Providers

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Sandvine (News - Alert) announced that its network policy control solutions are being leveraged by customers to manage traffic congestion, improve connectivity and enhance subscribers’ Internet experience.

In a release, Dave Caputo, President and CEO, Sandvine said, “In today’s dynamic broadband industry, Sandvine is proud to be able to meet the evolving needs of GCI (News - Alert), Thumb Cellular, and Carolina West Wireless with our flexible network policy control solutions.”

Caputo added that Sandvine is striving to help customers defer CapEx, reduce OpEx and increase revenue through the introduction of new service offerings such as tethering detection and tiered billing services, in order to provide high-quality subscriber Internet experience.

A provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators the company added that its network policy control technology is deployed by service providers to detect network conditions that trigger policies to manage their fixed networks.  GCI an Alaska-based company providing voice, video, data and wireless communication services leverages Sandvine solutions for this purpose.

The increase in data usage on mobile devices has instigated wireless carriers to implement network policy control to manage peak-time network traffic enabling all users to gain fair access to the Internet.  Wireless network operators, like Thumb Cellular and Carolina West Wireless are also using network policy control for launching service packages to enhance subscriber satisfaction and network profitability.

Slayton Stewart, CEO, Carolina West Wireless said, “Tethering incurs unpredicted data traffic costs, but through the ability to identify tethered devices, we can offer a tiered service package that caters to this need while recouping some of our costs.”

The ability of service providers to offer subscribers more competitive and innovative usage-based service tiers ensures more choice and control besides enhancing their quality of experience, Stewart noted.

Sandvine’s network policy control solutions help protect and improve the quality of experience on the Internet. Its network policy control equipment and software helps DSL, FTTx, cable, fixed wireless and mobile operators to understand network traffic, manage network congestion and create new services and revenues. It also helps mitigate malicious traffic to subscribers, deliver QoS-prioritized multimedia services and increase subscriber satisfaction.

Sandvine entered into a strategic alliance with Optenet, a provider of SaaS (News - Alert) offerings and ‘on-premise’ security solutions, to launch optimized parental controls for broadband subscribers worldwide in 2009, reported TMCnet.
