Sandvine (News - Alert), an intelligent broadband network solutions provider, recently announced the release of its upgraded Fairshare Traffic Management solution for fixed and mobile broadband customers. The Version 3.2 release is the beta solution that continues to provide fair access for internet subscribers.
After the initial release of the solution in May 2008, more than 30 service provider networks serving around 90+ million fixed and mobile subscribers worldwide have purchased Sandvine's Fairshare Traffic Management solution. The latest beta version is currently deployed in four tier-one cable service provider networks in North America and Europe.
The newest Fairshare Traffic Management release 3.2 provides broadened capabilities in the most advanced cable networks such as interoperability with DOCSIS 3.0 compatible Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS). Also included is enhanced policy options that address and manage network resources based on application, subscriber, and time-of-day and congestion awareness. The solution delivers detailed descriptions of policy actions, outcomes and impact via advanced reporting tools. It also provides sophisticated and customizable congestion management policies that operate only when and where required.
According to Tom Donnelly, executive vice president marketing and sales for Sandvine, management of broadband traffic is on the rise to ensure fair share of network resources among internet subscribers and applications. He added, “Fairshare Traffic Management is on its third iteration to address the growing complexity of modern operator networks. Our product manages traffic in a way that considers all types of use cases and variations of applications, users and congestion state.” To manage inherent competition for network resources, Service providers and legislators alike are availing advanced network policy control techniques, like Fairshare Traffic Management. This type of network policy control ensures best protection and improved quality of experience for maximum number of subscribers for the maximum amount of time.
Fairshare Traffic Management solution provides capabilities across all access technologies with most of Sandvine's customers being mobile network operators. With the help of Sandvine’s network policy control equipment and software, fixed and mobile broadband operators can better understand network traffic, manage network congestion, create new services and revenues, mitigate undesirable traffic to subscribers, deliver QoS-prioritized multimedia services and increase subscriber satisfaction.
