Infonetics Research Releases Service Delivery Platform Software and Services Report

Infonetics Research, a research and consulting firm serving the communications industry, released the second edition of its 2010 Service Delivery Platform Software and Services report.

The report tracks fixed-line and wireless Service Delivery Platform or “SDP” software and services that operators use to facilitate the creation and delivery of services.

Shira Levine, Infonetics Research's (News - Alert) directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy, said, "Traditionally, the service delivery platform is seen as a tool to deliver services to the end user, but I see a growing interest in the concept of the two-sided business model, in which operators generate additional revenue from developers by providing access to network capabilities and subscriber information.”

This trend, according to Levine, is driving investment in solutions that not only allow operators to expose assets like call control, location, and messaging to third-party developers to create a more dynamic content ecosystem, but also allow them to bill for that exposure.

Infonetics Research’s forecast for the worldwide SDP services and software market has been increased slightly, with the market expected to hit $4.7 billion in 2014.

For worldwide SDP software revenue, Oracle is the Number 1 vendor. Ericsson (News - Alert) is the Number 1 vendor for SDP services revenue.

The research agency foresees the most pronounced growth opportunities in developing regions of Asia Pacific, Central and Latin America or “CALA,” and the Middle East where the operators are in the earliest stages of their SDP deployment.

Initiatives such as GSMA's OneAPI commercial pilot and the Wholesale Applications Community or “WAC” are working to create a developer-friendly service creation environment and standards-based platforms for operators when building their mobile storefronts.

Infonetics' Service Delivery Platform report provides regional and worldwide market size, vendor market share, forecasts through 2014, market drivers, and analysis for fixed-line and wireless SDP software, services, and components.

The report tracks revenue separately for consulting, integration and hosted SDP services. The five main SDP software components are network and subscriber abstraction, SDP framework, service creation environment, service orchestration, and Web services environment.

The SDP report includes customer wins and service provider announcements from Accenture, Astelit, COSMOTE, Globe Telecommunications (News - Alert), Korea Telecom Freetel, KPN, Maxis Communications Berhad, Mobilkom, Mobily Saudi Arabia, Shanghai Unicom, SingTel, TDC, Telecom Italia Mobile, Telefónica, Telstra, and others.

Vendors tracked include Accenture, Aepona, Alcatel-Lucent, Amdocs, Argela, Atos, CapGemini, Datatronics, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, IBM, Motorola, Nokia Siemens, Oracle, Tata, TechMahindra, Telcordia, Telenity, TietoEnator, Volantis (News - Alert), ZTE, and others.

In July, Infonetics Research also published the SDP Deployment Strategies: Global Service Provider Survey as part of its Continuous Research Service “CRS” series which includes analyst notes and surveys about the next gen OSS and policy market, TMCnet reported.

The global service delivery platform market generated USD3.4 billion (EUR2.7 billion) in revenue in 2009 and is forecast to generate USD6.8 billion (EUR5.4 billion) in 2014, growing at a CAGR of 14.8 percent, according to the latest report from global telecoms, media and IT adviser Analysys (News - Alert) Mason, entitled Service delivery platforms: worldwide forecast 2010-2014.
