Join the Mile-High Text Club with Toktumi's Line2 App

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Web Editor

Ever been stuck on a long, boring, flight and wished you could whip out your cell phone to text a friend to make the time pass? Well now there’s an app for that; an app that has been making TMCnet news pretty frequently lately.

Toktumi, Inc’s calling app Line2, has just made the in-flight experience more enjoyable, productive and relaxing for everyone with the latest version of its award-winning Line2 (News - Alert) application for iPhones, iPods and iPads.   The new Line 2 Version 3.0 lets air passengers stay in contact through SMS text.

“Just because Line2 technology makes it possible to make phone calls over airplane Wi-Fi, doesn’t mean it’s okay,” said PeterSisson, founder and CEO of Toktumi (News - Alert). “I personally would go crazy if a loud talker was yapping with someone on the phone on a long flight.  With Line2's carrier-grade SMS texting, people can be fully connected to family, friends and co-workers throughout their flights without disturbing their fellow passengers."

Aside from allowing texting on flights, Line2 lets iPod Touch and iPad users make unlimited Wi-Fi calls and send unlimited SMS text messages. Using the latest iPod Touch, the mic is built in, making it that much easier to use an iPod or iPad as a cell phone.  Using Line2 on a new iPod Touch or iPad is basically just like using an iPhone (News - Alert) .

According to company officials, unlike texting-only applications for the iPhone, Line2 combines VoIP calling capabilities and carrier-grade texting in one app, so that customers can use one number for both types of communication. It is the first application of its kind that can transform a device into a full-feature working mobile phone.

“Line2’s SMS texting is really useful while in flight,” Sisson adds. “You can let people know about delays, make plans for the evening, or just pass the time texting with your friends and family.”

TMCnet recently did a review on the Line2 Version 3.0, after trying it out. The app is available for $9.95 a month complete with unlimited SMS text messaging or for $14.95 including business PBX (News - Alert) features. If you already have an iPod Touch or iPad, why wouldn’t you switch over from a wireless carrier network to the Line2 app? It offers everything a carrier network does for a cell phone at a fraction of the cost as opposed to a monthly contract.
