Toktumi Says Text, but Don't Call Using Line2 on Flights

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Web Editor

If you have been following TMCnet’s coverage on Toktumi’s (News - Alert) Line2 app, you are aware that the application can turn any iPod Touch or iPad into a fully functional mobile device. Most recently, Toktumi announced that using the most updated Line2 (News - Alert) version 3.0 enables users to text while traveling in air. However, users may have taken this feature a bit too far when joining the mile-high text club.

Toktumi is now clarifying to its customers, that it does not condone the making of internet voice calls “VoIP” using Line2 during air travel. Toktumi supports airline rules and stands behind customer sentiment that requires passenger cabins to be phone call free.

Although Line2 allows its users to make VoIP phone calls from anywhere, including Wi-Fi equipped airplanes, Toktumi strongly discourages their use in that particular environment and wants to make that clear to all its users.

“Most airlines prohibit voice calls on airplanes, and in survey after survey we see that most travelers agree with this position," said Peter Sisson (News - Alert), Founder and CEO of Toktumi. “Toktumi applauds the air carriers for continuing to upgrade their fleets with Wi-Fi, because email, web surfing and texting are wonderful benefits while in flight.  But we do not condone the use of Line2 or any other application to make voice calls over Wi-Fi inside the passenger cabin.  That would drive everybody crazy!"

As a safe and considerate alternative to voice calls, the Line2 app offers carrier-grade SMS texting, allowing customers to exchange unlimited text messages with any other SMS-enabled phone.  Unlike competing texting-only applications for the iPhone (News - Alert), the Line2 app combines VoIP calling and texting in one application, so that customers can use one number for both types of communication. There is the only calling app available on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch that offers this.

However, please keep in mind, while the Line2 application does allow users to make calls while in flight, that is not what the application is intended for. So remember to keep it strictly texting while using Line2 during air travel.
