Inmarsat (News - Alert) recently announced that it has chosen Metaswitch to fuel its growth and enhance its FleetBroadband maritime communications service. The service from Inmarsat is also the first maritime communications service that gives cost-effective broadband data and voice via a compact antenna on an international basis.
In a release, David Kingdon-Jones, director of Product and Service Management at Inmarsat said, “Metaswitch is the best fit for our increased feature requirements, plus we have been very impressed with the quality of the technology and the worldwide support organization. Our maritime services have a trusted reputation in the shipping industry and are sold by a large number of partners worldwide. Now we can provide even better communication services for users.”
Inmarsat’s cutting edge ‘FB Multi-voice’ capability will augment the flexibility of FleetBroadband by providing them the ability to deliver simultaneous calls. The company will implement Metaswitch Universal Media Gateways and the MetaSphere Multimedia Telephony Application Server (MTAS) at network hubs spread over Western Europe and the Pacific Rim, all of which will be in the control of Inmarsat’s international headquarters in London.
Richard Dorey, vice president of Sales for EMEA at Metaswitch said, “We are very pleased to help Inmarsat launch Voice over IP services. By using Metaswitch’s exclusive quality assurance tools, Inmarsat will be able to maintain their reputation for superior customer service.”
