Boingo Makes it Easy to Access Wi-Fi In-flight and in Airport Hotspots

By Daniel Brecht, Contributing Writer

Frequent fliers can benefit from an in-flight broadband service like Gogo's commercial air service, also known as "Gogo Inflight Internet” for in-flight entertainment (IFE). This includes in-flight connectivity for an Internet connection.

Inflight Wi-Fi internet services are available on many commercial and international flights these days. Among Wi-Fi providers recognized in the past as best in a variety of travel-related categories is Boingo’s Wireless Inc., a worldwide Wi-Fi network software and access services provider of high-speed, high-bandwidth on the ground as well as in the air.

According to the December 2011 issue of Global Traveler, Boingo (News - Alert) was one of the winner’s in their GT Tested Reader Survey for offering the “Best WiFi Service.”

Current Boingo customers can now access Gogo Inflight Internet with their Boingo account. This is a pay-per-access pricing service that is available on those participating airlines that have flights over the continental United States and offer Gogo Wi-Fi. There is also Boingo coverage for international travelers; Lufthansa flights between the airline’s hubs in Germany and destinations in the U.S. or Canada actually offer on-board broadband Internet using Deutsche Telekom’s Wi-Fi service.

The Boingo Wi-Finder app, available for PCs and Macs, as well as Android (News - Alert) and Apple iOS, will alert users when they are in a Boingo hotspot. Users can otherwise simply select “Connect” to allow a search for commercially-available free and Boingo Wi-Fi signals from around the world, including airports.

Not only does Boingo offer six different monthly Wi-Fi access plans; they also have the Wi-Fi Internet solution for those looking to stay connected on the go, at airports as well as in-flight. Boingo recognizes the importance for flyers to be able to use their mobile device(s), such as smartphones and tablets, while waiting for a flight to check emails, read the news, write messages and so on.

Boingo knows Wi-Fi usage at airports is important for flyers and sees it also valuable to have the chance to use in-flight Wi-Fi while on the airplane.

This played a part in why they had recently made an agreement with one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies, Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) (DT), to give Boingo customers access to in-flight Wi-Fi services on international flights.
