Allegiant Air Partners with Row 44 for Wireless Entertainment Onboard

By Colleen Lynch, TMCnet Contributor

Leading provider of in-flight Wi-Fi, Row 44 has entered into a partnership with Allegiant Travel Company.

Allegiant Travel Company is a subsidiary of Allegiant Air, and will use Row 44’s Video-On-Demand (VOD) service for its entire fleet of 757’s.

The company mainly travels between the mainland of the United States and Hawaii, so passengers en route between the two can now enjoy Row 44’s entertainment services.

As a part of the deal, Allegiant will be the first commercial airline to offer Row 44’s wireless streaming device-based VOD service.

President of Allegiant Travel Company, Andrew Levy described the motive behind the partnership, saying “At Allegiant, we are always focused on providing our customers with exceptional travel deals, and we sought the same in our in-flight entertainment partner. Row 44 had the only platform that met our desire to provide our passengers with modern, affordable entertainment without sacrificing our commitment to low-cost.”

Travis Christ, chief marketing and sales officer for Row 44, commented further, saying “Allegiant has proven adept at pioneering and delivering innovative solutions in the travel marketplace. Allegiant is a low cost specialist when it comes to linking leisure travelers to popular destinations, and we look forward to complementing their brand with a world-class VOD entertainment experience.”

Passengers using Row 44’s service will have access to a wide range of content featured in an easily-navigable, Allegiant-branded portal. The platform includes a selection of movies, television shows, and other short subject programming, as well as music and games.

A flight map also comes standard with the service, which functions without an aircraft antenna, storing its content aboard the craft on a 1.8 terabyte server. Wireless streaming allows the content to be accessed from passengers’ iPads, iPhones, laptops, Android (News - Alert) devices, and other Wi-Fi enabled gadgets.

Row 44’s VOD service will be deployed on Allegiant Air’s planes beginning in the first quarter of 2013.
